Job Description
About the Role
We are seeking a reliable Casual Laundry Assistant to support the daily operations of our Boarding House Laundry. This role is essential in ensuring that boarders’ clothing, uniforms, and linen are processed efficiently, hygienically, and returned in excellent condition.
Working within a school environment, this role requires attention to detail, discretion, and a strong commitment to maintaining high standards of care for students’ personal items, as well as supporting school functions where required.
Key Responsibilities
Sort, wash, dry, fold, and distribute boarders’ clothing and linen
Accurately identify and manage individual student items and labelling
Operate laundry equipment safely and efficiently (washers, dryers, ironing equipment)
Iron uniforms and garments to a high presentation standard
Wash and iron tablecloths, linens, and other items following school and boarding events
Ensure uniforms are cleaned and prepared to a high standard for daily school use
Inspect items for damage, stains, or wear and report as required
Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the laundry facility
Follow strict hygiene, infection control, and WHS procedures
Manage laundry volumes to meet daily boarding house demands
Assist with stock control of laundry supplies (detergents, etc.)
Work closely with boarding staff to ensure timely service delivery
Desired Skills and Experience
Skills & Experience
Previous experience in a laundry, boarding school, hospitality, or similar environment
Experience or confidence with ironing and fabric care is highly desirable
Strong attention to detail, particularly in handling individual student items
Ability to work in a fast-paced, physically active role
Good organisational and time management skills
Understanding of safe work practices and manual handling
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Current Blue Card or ability to obtain
Personal Attributes
Reliable, punctual, and trustworthy
Respectful of student privacy and belongings
Positive attitude and strong work ethic
Flexible and able to adapt to changing daily priorities, including post-event workload
Good communication skills
