Job Description
About the Role
The Boarding Tutor will oversee various aspects of the program within both Griffith House and Harlin House. They will play a vital role in setting the tone within BGS Boarding, ensuring all boarders adhere to expectations and routines, while managing behaviours as needed.
The successful candidate will ideally have experience in working with young people. They will hold the necessary Blue Card to work in this setting.
Role Responsibilities
Providing a safe and supportive residential environment.
Providing an active supervisory presence whilst on shift.
Conducting informal and formal Roll Call as required.
Managing both local and home leave for boarders.
Supervising prep sessions as required.
Assisting students in their studies as required.
Supervising recreation time and the use of Common Rooms.
Being responsible for the bedtime routines in line with house protocol.
Overseeing and supervising mealtimes.
Specific Duties
Mentoring Responsibilities (Boarder wellbeing)
Contribute to the general wellbeing of all boarders within Boarding.
Ensure the safety of each boarder, specifically whilst engaged in the activities program,
Contributing significantly to the House Family (tutor) group system.
Behaviour Management
Ensuring that Boarding routines and protocols are followed.
Ensuring that the Boarding Behaviour Management Policy is followed.
Adopting a proactive approach to concerns by working to detect problems and difficulties, advising the Director of Boarding, Assistant Director of Boarding or Senior Boarding Tutor as appropriate.
Communication
Contributing to the Boarderline publication as requested.
Contributing to the ‘End of Shift’ report system using the appropriate protocols.
Hours
Part Time - 16+ hours per weekend Fri-Sun
There is the possibility of accommodation for the successful candidate. Remuneration will take the form of a fortnightly salary with rental deduction for subsidised accommodation that will include all services and meals during term-time.
In addition, you will be expected to attend
Tutor meetings with the Director of Boarding, Assistant Director of Boarding and Senior Boarding Tutor.
Annual house functions, including:
New boarder induction (January).
Start of year function (January).
Annual gathering (Winter).
Open Day (Term 2).
Pre-Formal reception (September).
Boarding Year 12 Leavers events (November).
Annual Boarding and Workplace Health & Safety training.
Boarding training.
1st Aid.
Additional tasks may be requested by the Head of Residence, Director of Boarding, Senior Boarding Tutor and/or the Headmaster.
